How the invention of the tanks helped us fight.
The new weapon changed the way wars are fought. Before the tank, crossing muddy, sandy, or any other difficult terrain was hard to cross with any vehicle. Crossing enemy lines were much harder, there was no safe way to cross trenches, break through barbwire, or get past enemy fire. Also before the tank, there was no artillery that could be easily moved across the battlefield. Before the tank, artillery was carried by trucks, wheeled around like a trailer, hauled on train cars sometimes, or just stayed in place during the whole battle. After the invention of the tank, crossing difficult terrain was much easier. The caterpillar tracks and their strong design made it easier to cross almost any terrain. Modern tanks can cross any terrain, they are designed to go over sand, mud, rocks, mountains, forests, and even water. After the tank was invented, it was much easier to cross trenches, break through barbwire, and get past enemy fire thanks to their thick armor and off road capabilities. The armor shielded the soldiers on the inside from enemy fire and protected them from the barbwire. New tanks have very thick armor to protect them from bullets, artillery fire from other tanks and airplanes, and even fires. The M1A2 Abrams is known to have armor that is one foot thick in some areas. Modern tanks are also designed to smash through any thing. They can bust through walls, flatten cars, and knock down trees. After the invention of tanks, artillery could be hauled around much easier, although trucks and trailers are still used for long range artillery, tanks have artillery guns on them and many had revolving turrets to make it easier to shoot without having to move the whole vehicle. Some tanks could even haul and extra artillery gun as a trailer. Modern tanks usually have one large artillery cannon on a revolving turret. Tanks today can move around at high speeds too, some have a top speed of over 40 miles per hour. The M1A2 Abrams has a large revolving turret with a 120mm cannon that can shoot almost two miles and is assisted by a 50cal machine gun. The M1A2 Abrams also has a large supercomputer targeting system that gives the tank extreme accuracy. The invention of the tanks has forever changed the worlds armies.
